The full picture

Deliberately minimal - no iPhone companion, no cross-device sync, no boards or folders for organising clippings, though individual items can be pinned. History is stored locally, which is the privacy story and the missing feature at the same time. It respects the flag password managers set on sensitive copies. Essentially a one-person project, so the MIT licence is your insurance policy. Requires macOS 14 or later.

What you’re buying

Maccy keeps a searchable history of everything you copy and puts it behind one keystroke. That is the whole product. It is a small native app, it opens instantly, it sits in the menu bar without opinions, and the search field is good enough that after a day you stop thinking about it.

The list of things it does not do is long and deliberate. No iPhone app, no iCloud sync, no folders or boards for filing clippings away, no gallery of everything you copied last March. History stays on the Mac it was copied on, which is either the privacy story or the missing feature depending on what you came for. Copies that a password manager marks as sensitive are skipped rather than stored.

The source is MIT licensed and the direct download is free. The identical build on the Mac App Store costs $9.99, which is a tip jar with a convenient update mechanism rather than a paid tier - there is no feature behind it. This is essentially one person's project, so treat the licence as the insurance policy if that person moves on.

If you want clipboard history on your phone with a folder structure, pay for something larger. If you have been eyeing a subscription to remember your own copy buffer, stop.
